A chemical leak caused concern in Norton, MA
In late April, a portion of North Worcester Street in Norton, Massachusetts, was closed for over three hours after water department employees discovered a gas line leak, The Sun Chronicle reports.
The leaking fluid came from an old, abandoned gas line, and while water department workers contained the liquid in a pail, safety concerns were a big priority, the source said.
Overall, less than five gallons of chemical leaked from the line, and the appropriate officials were notified to mend the gas line.
The contained chemical was hydraulic oil used in gas lines long ago, and officials were unable to identify the age of the system. Fortunately, no one was injured.
Having the proper absorbent materials helps professionals effectively maintain chemical leaks. In Norton, XSORB Caustic Neutralizing Absorbent could have come in handy, as this granular formula quickly and effectively absorbs potentially harmful spills.
When securing safety and restoring order to a community, officials need the proper devices on hand. A professional hazmat team may want to stock its shelves with superior supplies to help make sure the appropriate resources are in place to complete any task that presents itself.
