The National Academy of Social Insurance (NASI) recently released its Workers' Compensation: Benefits, Coverage and Costs, 2011 report, which provides comprehensive estimates of workers' compensation payments for all 50 states and the District of Columbia.
Employer costs have increased 7% just since 2010 (reflecting an increase in wages), with an increase in total benefits paid occurring in 29 states.
Key findings:
- Between 1980-2011, total benefits increased 3.5% with 126 million covered workers
- 62.6% of disability cases were temporary
- 36.8% were permanent partial
- 0.4% were fatalities
- 0.3% were permanent total
