Chemical spill following truck rollover leads to evacuations in Texas

Some residents living south of Melissa, Texas, were ordered to evacuate recently following a truck rollover on state Highway 5 that led to a chemical spill.

According to the Dallas-Fort Worth NBC affiliate, the crash occurred when a small tanker truck rolled over down an embankment and spilled the chemicals it was carrying. The driver reportedly sustained minor injuries, and officials say the truck was likely carrying petroleum-based household products.

The news source reports there are a number of homes within a half-mile of the crash site, and local residents were being evacuated to a local church. Still, the majority of the citizens in the area were at work when the chemical spill occurred, according to the news provider.

A portion of Highway 5 was reportedly closed down while crews awaited a private hazmat cleanup team to assess and decontaminate the site.

In cases like these, cleanup crews often look to top-of-the-line products such as Impact Absorbents’ Xsorb II Absorbent Disinfecting Encapsulator Packet to absorb difficult spills and allow for easier disposal.
