Grant County, Georgia, officials reported a chemical spill and fire on March 22, 2012, according to Columbia Basin Herald. Fire and police authorities responded immediately to the disaster after roughly 800 pounds of a dry chemical fertilizer spilled near Road 1 Northwest and State Route 281.
Grant County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Kyle Foreman told the news source an unknown individual was tearing apart a container when the fertilizer ignited. Foreman said no injuries were reported and there was no immediate risk to public health, but roads were closed as a precautionary measure.
