Chemical spill impacts Oregon dairy plant

Employees at a Portland, Oregon, dairy plant saw the impact of a chemical spill, when a leak occurred on May 30, 2012, and sickened 11 workers, The Associated Press reports.

The spill occurred when 450 gallons of acid were accidentally removed from a truck and added to a tank that held 1,150 gallons of a caustic liquid. According to the news source, a chemical reaction led the combined liquids to seep into the ground, causing some areas to reach 150 degrees.

Portland Fire & Rescue representative Paul Corah told the news source that 11 people displayed respiratory symptoms after the spill. None of those impacted suffered life-threatening conditions.

A chemical leak can affect workers quickly, so employers will want to ensure they have top-notch products on hand to control the spills. Fast environmental cleanup is necessary to effectively manage a leak, and the XSORB Universal Sock serves businesses well.

With this product, companies can contain and absorb up to 10 quarts of liquid spills. Additionally, the universal sock is encased in a hazmat yellow fabric sleeve, which helps make it tough enough to control caustic spills.
