Chemical spill on I-30 shuts down a few exits overnight

A chemical leak on January 11, 2012, in Hot Spring County, Arkansas, lead to the shutdown of Interstate 30 overnight, reports KTHV news.

According to the source, a semi-truck tipped over on I-30 near the town of Friendship. The truck began leaking a chemical known as n-propyl acetate, which is a colorless, volatile solvent with a slight odor. The chemical solution has solvency power for many natural organic and non-organic compounds. It is also miscible with many other solvents.

The chemical leak lead to both lanes around mile market 86 to be closed overnight. The road was completely reopened by 9 a.m. Thursday, January 12, 2012.

The Arkansas Sate Police reported there to be one fatality involved in the accident, but have not indicated who it was, the news source said.

Officials need to be ready to effectively resolve leaks before they spread uncontrollably onto the roads in any community. An XSORB Acid Neutralizing Absorbent Bag could assist in making the cleanup efforts fast and simple. The absorbent device quickly neutralizes most organic or non-organic solutions, turning chemicals into a dry, sweepable property.
