The Aloma Post Office in Winter Park, Florida, closed temporarily after a small chemical spill. Orange County Fire Rescue officials noted the leak was likely cleaning fluid, reports the Orlando Sentinel.
The post office was evacuated on March 24, 2012, when some of the 21 employees began coughing and complaining of a burning sensation in their throats.
A hazmat team was called in to evaluate the spill, which was approximately 2-feet in diameter and located in the mail-sorting room, the news source reports. After a quick evaluation, officials determined the chemical to be a mineral oil-based substance used as a cleaning solution.
The spill was soaked up, and the post office reopened later in the day.
Cleanup officials need to be prepared for any caustic spill that may occur in public spaces, and having absorbent devices on hand makes their jobs easier. The XSORB Acid Neutralizing Absorbent Bag is a top-of-the-line formula that contains most acids on contact. The non-leaching product turns any liquid spill into a dry matter that can be swept up safely and effectively.
When it comes to protecting public safety, hazmat crews need devices on hand that are proven to be successful in containing hazardous spills. The XSORB Acid Neutralizing Absorbent Bag is a high-quality option for officials tasked with managing caustic spills in an area.
