Coast Guard on alert as Spanish company begins operation off Florida Keys

Cuba is preparing to allow a Spanish oil company the rights to drill for oil less than 100 miles from the Florida Keys next year. The U.S. Coast Guard is on high alert as the devastating effects of the Deepwater Horizon disaster are still lingering in the minds of most Americans.

In the event of an oil leak, Coast Guard officials would immediately fly out to the scene and deploy a variety of devices to contain the leak and eliminate possible contamination of wildlife.

An XSORB Oil Select Boom could help in the event of an oil leak. The absorbent device removes all petroleum-based products in the marine environment, including waterways, points, boating areas or contaminated barrels. The device is composed of two socks for added absorption, rope, netting and hooks. Deploying a tool like the XSORB Oil Select Boom would help remedy oil spills much faster than most traditional methods would.

Hopefully there won’t be a catastrophic oil leak due to negligent drilling practices, but if there is, the U.S. Coast Guard has already made plans to deal with any potential life-threatening situation before it grows out of control.
