Connecticut DEEP begins environment cleanup following oil spill

An oil spill has filled a pond with roughly 300 gallons of fuel oil near a Norwalk, Connecticut school. The Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) has begun cleanup efforts to restore the pond, according to The Daily Norwalk.

DEEP began an investigation into the incident, noting the oil spill came from the West Rocks Middle School. DEEP spokesperson Dwayne Gardner told The Daily Norwalk that school workers were completing maintenance of an oil line near the school’s burner when the leak began. Oil has contaminated the pond, making its way into the local stream before moving into a retention area.
