Cleanup crews were out in full force after an oil spill from a garbage truck caused a big mess in Lorain, Ohio.
The Morning Journal reports that a Republic Services garbage truck spilled motor oil for more than a mile along Homewood Avenue on November 14 before a passerby pointed out the problem to the truck driver.
Firefighters were called to the scene and had to close the roadway between Seneca Avenue and Oakwood Drive to clean up the oil. Officials also worked quickly to limit the amount of oil from going into a nearby sewer. Spill containment products from Impact Absorbents such as XORB Universal Spill Clean Up and XSORB EDGE Aggressive Absorbent, can help prevent future damage from spending.
A Maintenance Systems crew from Elyria was called in to assist in the cleanup of Homewood Avenue and a number of side streets were oil was also found.
The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) was informed about the potential damage from the spill.
In all, the fire department said that approximately 8 gallons of oil was spilled along the mile long path. Cost of the cleanup has not yet been determined.
