A strong chemical odor inside a local pool shop in Manteca, California, caused a blaze to erupt in the community, the Manteca Bulletin reports.
Two employees of the Leslie Pools store evacuated the shop around 9 a.m. on May 17, 2012 after a strong smell began permeating in the area. A small chemical fire started nearly an hour later inside the shop, according to the news source.
Manteca Fire Battalion Chief David Marques approached the caustic chemicals with sensitivity, as the entire team didn’t know what they were dealing with. The department called in the San Joaquin County Hazmat Team from Stockton, while another specialist from Oakland was also notified of the situation.
After officials attempted to aerate the area, a small blaze centered around buckets filled with calcium hypo chloride ignited nearby materials. Firemen were tasked with managed the situation.
