Two people suffered injuries resulting from an acid leak at Palm Bay, Florida, electronic parts distributor USBid Inc. on February 22, 2012. Local firefighters discovered the victims at the business after responding to reports of a chemical spill.
The leak occurred after the victims, USBid Inc. employees, were transferring nitric acid from one container to another. Less than one quart of the hazardous chemical spilled, but the nitric acid caused severe harm to the employees. One worker suffered hand and eye burns, while the other employee inhaled lethal vapors, and both required medical care. The company received a Fire Safety Report to ensure proper spill cleanup after the incident.
