Household cleaning products spill across Indiana highway

Drivers experienced traffic delays along the southbound lanes of U.S. Route 31 in Tipton County, Indiana, on March 20, 2012. Indiana State Police told the Indianapolis Star emergency crews spent the morning cleaning up a chemical spill after a semi rear-ended a box truck carrying household cleaning products.

A Kokomo Fire Department hazardous chemical team responded to the accident and provided environmental cleanup assistance. The news source reports containers inside the box truck released hazardous chemicals that could have caused significant damage to the environment. Cleanup officials contained the leak and reopened the closed highway lanes by noon the same day.

Managing a chemical spill can be a challenge, even for experienced cleanup crews. However, using the FiberLink premium universal sock can help authorities limit traffic delays when spills occur on busy highways.

The universal sock blocks running liquids from sensitive areas, and its absorbency meets or exceeds industry standards. The product easily molds around machinery, barrels and corners, but is also useful in emergency situations. Using the product allows people to retain oils, coolants, solvents and water after any spill or leak.
