Maine industrial cleaning company suffers chemical spill

A June 3, 2012, chemical leak at a Scarborough, Maine, industrial cleaning business took its toll on three workers, as they were sent to a nearby hospital following the spill, The Republic reports. Firefighters and hospital staff arrived onsite shortly after the leak occurred, and officials noted the three people taken to the hospital are expected to be OK.

The spill occurred at Quantum Clean, a comprehensive parts and cleaning solutions provider in the area. Deputy Fire Chief Tony Attardo said staff workers were completing routine industrial cleaning when a combination of acids and water produced a vapor that made them feel sick, The Portland Press Herald reports. However, the vapor was limited to one room.
