Oil spill causes significant damage to coral in the Gulf of Mexico

Scientists released a report describing the impact of the BP Oil Spill in the Gulf of Mexico, which noted the leak caused substantial harm to coral, according to The Durango Herald.

The spill took place roughly 50 miles off the Louisiana coast on April 20, 2010. Researchers found the damaged corals in October 2010, but discovered a direct link between the oil spill, environmental cleanup and the coral harm only recently.

“It was like a graveyard of corals,” Temple University biologist Erik Cordes told the news source.

Investigators found oil to be the main culprit behind coral damage, and the product may have harmed other underwater species. Using the FiberDuck oil-only sock to clean up a spill can help eliminate environmental risks immediately.

The sock is an ideal solution for oil spills on land or in water because it features a durable polypropylene skin. The water-repellent item includes highly absorbent hydrophobic fiber, and is capable of floating indefinitely. Using the product will yield quick results because it absorbs hydrocarbons such as crude oil, diesel oil and gasoline effectively. People can even use the sock around machine bases, making it a helpful option indoors and out.
