OR&R: What You Need to Know

We’re all familiar with R&R, though most of us don’t take nearly enough of it these days. But how familiar are you with OR&R? It’s not simply an exclamation of the need for rest and relaxation, but the need for restoration. These initials actually stand for Office of Response and Restoration. OR&R is the center of expertise of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) that prepares for, evaluates, and responds to threats to coastal environments, including oil and chemical spills, releases from hazardous waste sites, and marine debris.

To fulfill its protective mission, the OR&R:

  • Provides scientific and technical support to prepare for and respond to oil and chemical spills;
  • Determines damage to natural resources from these spills;
  • Protects and restores marine and coastal ecosystems, including coral reefs;
  • Works with communities to address critical local and regional coastal challenges.

At Impact Absorbents, we’re honored to be able to do our part in contributing to the safety and restoration of marine environments. From our FiberDuck Oil Absorbent Booms and Oil Absorbents Socks, to ColdForm Bonded Oil Absorbent Pads and Oil Absorbent Rolls, we can supply what you need to clean up oil spills and other petroleum products from the water’s surface. Bilge and sump booms are an easy and economical way to clean water in sumps and reduce contamination in bilge discharge. And our Marine Spill Kits supply everything you need to clean up and dispose of oil spills and other contaminants.

So whether you work on a local, regional or national level, knowing how to respond to spills and restore the marine environment is critical. And knowing where to find the spill containment and spill clean up products to handle any type of marine spill safely and efficiently means you can be prepared to act quickly when a marine spill happens.
