Potential explosion averted in Ferndale, Michigan

A potentially dangerous situation in Ferndale, Michigan, was quickly resolved by firefighters on January 11, 2012, reports Ferndale Patch.

Officials responded to an odor complaint around 10 a.m. at a pharmaceutical company facility that had been temporarily closed for the past year. The business – Fermical – had a leak in one of its chemical tubs that was still stored in the factory. The container held ethyl acetate and methyl ethyl keton – both hazardous chemicals.

Ferndale firefighters arrived just in time, as the two chemical solutions packed enough power to burst into flames with the right ignition source, which would have caused the entire facility to catch fire.

Cleanup crews acted quickly to contain the leak and restore order to the community.

The proper absorbent devices are necessary in situations where chemical leaks pose potential threats to communities and the environment. Cleanup crews across the United States may want to stock their resources with XSORB Acid Neutralizing Absorbent Bags. The device effectively neutralizes any leaked chemical, turning it into a nonhazardous material that can easily be swept up and disposed of.

XSORB Acid Neutralizing Absorbent bags can help protect communities everywhere.
