Prepping for An El Nio Year

It’s been drier than dry in California for several years now, but weather forecasters say we’re poised for a strong El Nio season. And that means municipalities would be wise to start preparing now for what could be one of the wettest winters on record.

Impact Absorbents stands ready to help. When it comes to protecting curbs and gutters from hazardous run-off, our Ultra-DrainGuard and Ultra-GutterGuard are a municipal manager’s top choice, preventing sediment, debris and other spill contaminants from seeping into the water system. Storm water pollution is a major concern, both locally and on a national level. Ultra-DrainGuard’s catch basin inserts remove waste from storm water before it can become a problem. Ultra-DrainGuard works exceptionally well, exceeding 80 percent sediment removal efficiency.

With our emphasis on environmentally compatible products, we also offer Ultra-DrainGuard Recycled, and Ultra-DrainGuard Ultimate. DrainGuard Ultimate provides the same hydrocarbon and sediment removal capabilities as Ultra-DrainGuard, with additional bacteria-reducing properties: strips of antimicrobial coated X-TEX “tentacles” that hang from the bottom of the DrainGuard and neutralize destructive bacteria once they’re immersed in standing catch basin water.

Ultra-GutterGuard is a similarly strong storm water resource, with built-in overflow ports that allow water to pass through during major rainfalls while preventing debris from reaching curb inlets. Made from recycled synthetic fibers, GutterGuard is available in several lengths and should be ordered two feet longer than the curb opening. It’s an easy, affordable solution to protect curb inlets during construction and it meets Best Management Practices (BMP).

As we prepare for the rain we desperately need (but hope won’t turn into floodwaters) we can be glad our municipalities have preventive and protective spill containment measures well underway.
