At approximately 4 p.m. on Thursday, January 26, 2012, an industrial hauler began to leak oil by the gallon in Scio Township, Michigan, reports The Dexter Leader.
When the driver noticed that his equipment was leaking oil onto the street he attempted to fix the machine and stop the spill, but the leak became too much to handle, reports the source.
The driver’s attempts to contain the leak made the oil flow more freely. By the time hazmat officials began to assess the situation, 30 gallons of transformer oil had already leaked onto the roadway.
Officials capped the spill and cleaned up the slippery sheen on the road before opening it back up to the public.
