Seattle officials contain oil spill after train derails

Roughly 3,000 gallons of oil spilled across a section of Seattle’s BNSF railroad on February 23, 2012, The Seattle Times reports. Officials managed to contain the leak as the majority of the oil seeped into a railside ditch.

The derailment of a train carrying fuel led to a spill when the oil tank ruptured after striking a section of rail, the news source reports. No one was injured during the incident, but the state Department of Ecology emphasized some of the oil made its way into nearby store drains and to the West Point Wastewater Treatment Plant.

An oil spill can create an expensive environmental cleanup project for state and local authorities, but tools are available to help manage costs. The XSORB universal spill clean-up provides individuals a non-toxic, eco-friendly formula to handle an oil leak.

The solution delivers superior performance, capable of cleaning up liquids and semi-liquids on contact. People can use the product in any environment because it can absorb tough materials including oil, paint and grease. In addition, the universal spill clean-up absorbs up to 7.5 times more than clay.
