Spill Clean up in the Time of COVID

Once upon an office or other business setting (auto shop, racetrack, grocery store, restaurant, school…), spill clean up was a simple matter. The uninitiated reached for paper towels or mops and buckets; those who knew the benefits of Impact Absorbents’ premier products reached for their Spill Station with Long Broom or XSORB Xpress Universal Spill Kit, and all was soon clean, dry, and residue-free in a matter of minutes.

How times have changed.

In the era of COVID-19, spill clean up is no longer simple. Even optimal spill clean up and disinfecting agents must be used according to specific protocols to ensure everyone remains safe and healthy. With a virus that can lurk on doorknobs and handrails, elevator buttons and keyboards, the slightest sharing can prove dangerous.

The CDC issued extensive guidelines for cleaning and disinfecting community facilities with suspected or confirmed cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). When cleaning hard (non-porous) surfaces, the CDC reminds us:

  • Wear skin protection and consider eye protection for potential splash hazards
  • Ensure adequate ventilation
  • Use no more than the amount recommended on the label
  • Use water at room temperature for dilution (unless stated otherwise on the label)
  • Avoid mixing chemical products
  • Label diluted cleaning solutions
  • Store and use chemicals out of the reach of children and pets

Fortunately, Impact Absorbents’ signature products, such as XSORB Universal Super Absorbent, are inherently safe to use, because they’re non-toxic and environmentally friendly — even FDA approved for use around food. While it’s preferable to clean up a spill when no one nearby is eating, sometimes a restaurant spill requires immediate attention. And with patio dining the preferred mode these days, spill clean up just got easier.

So stay safe, on and off the job. Wear your facemask, keep an XSORB Wall-Mountable Biohazard Response Case containing four clean up kits on hand, and gather via Zoom or another virtual platform, rather than in person, for the time being.

As the maxim states, “This too shall pass.” Before you know it, COVID-19 will be a history lesson, and a cautionary tale for our descendants.
