Staying Safe at Work

The National Academy of Social Insurance (NASI) recently released its Workers’ Compensation: Benefits, Coverage and Costs, 2011 report, which provides comprehensive estimates of workers’ compensation payments for all 50 states and the District of Columbia.

Employer costs have increased 7% just since 2010 (reflecting an increase in wages), with an increase in total benefits paid occurring in 29 states.

Key findings:

  • Between 1980-2011, total benefits increased 3.5% with 126 million covered workers
  • 62.6% of disability cases were temporary
  • 36.8% were permanent partial
  • 0.4% were fatalities
  • 0.3% were permanent total

While some of these statistics may change under the Affordable Care Act, why not take every preventive measure possible? Sadly, many businesses don’t realize that potential injuries such as slip and fall claims can be avoided by replacing clumsy mops and buckets with more effective, economical, and easy to use products such as an XSORB Xpress Universal Spill Kit, for fast spill clean up that renders floors clean, dry, and safe much more quickly and easily than other methods.

Each Kit includes a two-pound bag of XSORB Universal Spill Clean-up, a trio of 3″ x 4′ FiberLink Absorbent Socks, ten FiberLink Sorbent Pads, two temporary disposal bags, two hazmat labels, a pair of Nitrile protective gloves, one mask, a pair of safety goggles, and a dustpan and brush set.
