Thieves cause a slick situation in Connecticut

Thieves in Monroe, Connecticut, stripped copper piping from an oil tank in a vacant home Thursday, February 9, 2012, and caused approximately 150 gallons of heating oil to leak into Boys Halfway Brook, according to the ctpost.com.

The Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) and a Hazmat team were sent to the scene to cleanup the spill, reports the news source. The oil, which had drained from two heating tanks, had flowed into a nearby storm drain to the brook, which runs into Lake Zoar.

The DEEP said the spill was contained, and no traces of oil were found in the lake.

No arrests have been made.

Containing large amounts of heating oil may be a difficult task for professionals without the necessary absorbent devices. High-Capacity Oil-Only Pads are top-of-the-line products that work to absorb significant amounts of oil quickly. The sonic-bonded sorbents are made from a single layer of high-quality uniform polypropylene fibers, which provides added strength with reduced levels of linting.

Professionals working to contain the oil leak in Monroe can complete the task with ease using the High-Capacity Oil-Only Pads, which allows police to feel confident the spill will be resolved and can focus their efforts on making the proper arrests.
