Tractor-trailer chemical leak causes delays on Ohio highway

Motorists traveling along Ohio Interstate 70 experienced some significant delays during a five-hour period on March 15, 2012. The Columbus Dispatch reports eastbound lanes were closed after a tractor-trailer chemical leak occurred.

Columbus Fire HAZMAT officials and the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency provided environmental cleanup assistance after chemicals were found leaking from the trailer, according to the news source. Traffic crews began diverting cars away from the highway at 6 p.m. Interstate 70 reopened at 11:30 p.m., and Ohio Department of Transportation staff worked overnight to repair a shutdown traffic lane that was damaged by the leak.

Chemical hazards can cause traffic issues, and could lead to accidents, crashes and fatalities. Fortunately, state and local officials can purchase cost-effective solutions to manage dangerous chemical leaks, including the XSORB outdoor all-purpose absorbent.

Using the sock gives authorities greater control over chemical spills because the product features a non-toxic, eco-friendly solution. Officials can clean up liquids and semi-liquids on contact, including hazardous solutions such as oil, grease and paint. The item’s heavy formula helps it stay down in windy conditions, and leaves surfaces completely dry.
