It used to be weird enough to think someone was talking to themselves when you couldn’t see that little earpiece. But now people are more brazen. People are committed to their phones, and the rest of the world is just background to their noise.
We find it especially frustrating in the park. You go there to enjoy nature and perhaps get in a little aerobic exercise, and every other park visitor is on their phone or — perhaps even sadder, though quieter — has their earbuds in and tunes turned up.
