Heating oil filled Delaware’s White Clay Creek on March 2, 2012, according to Daily Local News. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) spokeswoman Deborah Freese told the news source the leak occurred during an unattended oil transfer between above-ground fuel tanks.
A witness stated the spill took place near the Remo Toto Mushroom Services plant, the news source reports. EPA officials launched environmental cleanup with assistance from the Chester County Hazmat team and Avondale Fire Company. Authorities completed a follow-up investigation on March 8, 2012, and discovered the tanks were not regulated by the state.
