Next year’s going to be the big one: we turn 30, and that used to mean adulthood, for real. However, since Impact Absorbents is a business and not a person (though it’s comprised of some pretty cool people!) we’re pleased to say we’ve been “all grown up” since childhood — though we did move from our founders’ garage into the spacious 45,000-square-foot manufacturing facility in Atascadero, California, that we still occupy today. That’s like giving up your tree house for a mansion.
So yes, we’re 29, and proud of it.
In case you’re not familiar with the backstory of Spill Hero’s premier spill clean up and spill containment solutions, it all began back in 1992, when the Tharp family began experimenting to create an absorbent product that would be the most effective, environmentally friendly, easy to use spill clean up product on the market. And XSORB Universal was born.
Today, we provide more than 500 spill containment and spill clean up products to meet spill clean up needs in numerous industries, from hospitals to food service, transportation to retail, emergency response to harbors and marinas — and many more.
Did you know we’re a woman-owned business? Pat Tharp stewards an environmentally responsible company that lives up to its name. Many of our products have received Ecologo certification from UL. The Ecologo identifies the top overall environmental performers on the market.
The criteria focus on the following main issues: toxicity to human, aquatic and mammalian life, noxious emissions to water, and packaging.
So today, where there’s a spill, there’s an excellent chance the XSORB product line is on the job. For example, XSORB has been used:
- to clean up a nuclear dumpsite
- for numerous oil spills in oceans, lakes and streams
- by the National Hot Rod Association, CalTrans and the Washington State Department of Transportation for oil cleanup.
