Nitric acid leak quickly contained in Tennessee

At approximately 12 p.m. on January 9, 2012, a nitric acid leak occurred in an outdoor bulk chemical storage area in Erwin, Tennessee, according to a press release from Nuclear Fuel Services.

The nitric acid was said to be quickly contained by a dike designed specifically for that purpose. In some instances, nitric acid has the potential of causing fumes that can be hazardous – like when mixed with water.

Officials were quick to contain the acid in the dike and transfer the containers to appropriate holding docks.

While containing leaked chemical solutions is vital for safety, many officials may choose to also neutralize the hazardous materials as an extra precaution.

XSORB Caustic Neutralizing Absorbent is a worthy product for such a task. The absorbent solution instantly neutralizes and absorbs most organic and inorganic caustic spills safely and effectively.

When cleanup officials choose to use XSORB, the device immediately resolves any harmful attributes of the chemicals, turning the remains into materials that can simply be swept up and disposed of like normal trash. As far as safety is concerned, XSORB is a must have utility for any organization that handles potentially hazardous materials.
