Chemical spill in St. Lucas results in small evacuation

An evacuation in St. Lucas, Iowa, came after two anhydrous ammonia tanks broke loose from the truck that was towing them on April 6, 2012, reports the Coshocton Tribune.

Authorities were able to contain the two tanks successfully, sealing one shortly after the leak and hauling the other to another location for maintenance, the news source reports.

St. Lucas is located in a valley and officials were afraid the heavier-than-air ammonia would settle in the town. In total, 40 community members were evacuated. Fortunately, no one was hurt.
