The Great Floods of 2019

The expression “a wet winter” doesn’t begin to describe what 2019 has been like for many businesses and homeowners across the country, which have experienced storms so severe they immobilized cities, turned towns into islands, and shut down freeways.

At the end of February, for example, northern California faced a flood of Biblical proportions. River towns became accessible only by boat. A five-year-old upscale business center that features a community market, wine tasting shops, and a popular commercial bakery was completely waterlogged, and most of its merchants shut down by the Department of Health. In March, the Midwest experienced flooding that breached levees and left hundreds stranded in Iowa and Nebraska.

A veterinarian’s office that typically posts humorous, pet-related messages on its billboard wrote, “Mother Nature needs anger management.”

Clearly, areas such as northern California, which has been notorious for its dry winters in recent years, won’t be in drought danger any time soon.

Spill Clean Up Solutions Once Flood Waters Recede

Our hearts go out to our friends in California, the Midwest, and elsewhere in the U.S. and abroad where homes and businesses were devastated by floodwaters this past winter. While this level of restoration is a job for companies that specialize in water and flood damage repair, Impact Absorbents can assist, on a smaller scale.

For instance: if you own or work at a marina, we can keep marine spills from contaminating the water. ColdForm Bonded Heavyweight Oil Absorbent Pads, made from natural, renewable fibers, are up to 40 percent more absorbent than polypropylene — and they require just one-third the amount of energy to produce, compared to poly products.

If you need to clean water in sumps or reduce contamination from bilge discharge, our FiberDuck Oil Absorbent Bilge Boomis your spill clean up solution. Designed to work while floating, Oil Absorbent Bilge Booms repel water indefinitely, and are safe and simple to use.

You might also choose XSORB Select Oil Absorbent Socks, which will sock it to petroleum-based products in the marine environment, removing toxic spills from waterways, holding ponds, boating areas, contaminated barrels, sumps, and more, leaving only clean water behind. These environmentally friendly socks are licensed by the California Department of Fish and Game as an oil spill clean up agent.

So if the Great Floods of 2019 have affected you, once again, our condolences. We hope your business or home is now restored and fully functional.

To ensure you’re always prepared to handle spill clean up of somewhat less than epic proportions, it’s wise to keep Impact Absorbents’ spill clean up and spill containment solutions on hand. Because while disasters happen without planning, we can plan for disasters.
